Onsted, MI – Cambridge Township is being sued by the company seeking to dig a gravel pit off of US-12 near Killarney Highway.

WLEN News recently talked to the legal representation for SSP Leasing LLC. They say that their client fulfilled the requirements of the zoning and permitting ordinances back when they originally filed, and should be allowed to mine.

Since the original filing date, the Township placed a moratorium on mining operations…during which time, they have been in the process of updating what they call outdated ordinances.

Legal counsel for SSP Leasing LLC, Philip Goldsmith, told WLEN News that his client feels that the Township put the moratorium in place because they submitted an application to mine… not because of outdated documents.

WLEN News reached out to the insurance lawyers representing the Township, and have not received a response.

There is a pretrial hearing scheduled for June 12th of this year in the courtroom of Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge Anna Marie Anzalone.
