Adrian, MI – There was quite a heated debate earlier this week about the contract between Lenawee County and a company called ZenCity.

One of the purposes of ZenCity is to gather information about the public’s opinion on certain things pertaining to Lenawee County government by using information available on social media, and through the use of surveys.

Commissioners in support of ZenCity say that it is a good way to better understand their constituents. A vocal supporter of ZenCity, David Stimpson…a Republican representing District 1… had this to say after the recent Personnel Ways and Means Committee meeting…

Those not in favor of the contract had questions about the data-grabbing capabilities of ZenCity, and that the company is not based in the United States. Stimpson referred to that reason as xenophobic. One of the opponents of the contract is Dustin Krasny, a Republican representing District 2.

He explained why the Information-Technology Committee made the recommendation to the Personnel- Ways and Means Committee…

The vote on Tuesday was 5-4 in favor of keeping the $40,000 per year contract between Lenawee County and ZenCity.

Commissioners Terry Collins, Ralph Tillotson, David Stimpson, KZ Bolton and Dawn Bales voted in favor of keeping the contract…Kevon Martis, Dustin Krasny, Jim VanDoren, and Nancy Jenkins-Arno voted against the contract. Many governmental agencies use ZenCity, including the State of Michigan.
