Public Area Closure Policy on Tonight’s Agenda of the Adrian City Commission

Adrian, MI – The Adrian City Commission has a resolution listed on tonight’s agenda for their regular meeting regarding Public Area Closure Policy.

If passed tonight, this is what the new policies will be:

Parades:
• 30-day notice is required.
• $25 permit fee for using one of 3 established routes (4th of July, Fair, and Homecoming).
• $25 additional per intersection for route deviations.
• “No Parking” sign posting required by applicant.
• Violations (no sign posting) – Actual cost of staff time to post signs, no permits issued until paid.
Parking Lot Closures:
• 30-day notice is required.
• Only downtown businesses/property owners can request lot closures adjacent to their buildings
for public events (available lots to be determined by Engineering Services Director).
• 2000 sq. ft. maximum area closure area.
• 12 hours maximum time closed.
• $150 fee – can be waived by DDA/Main Street for sponsored* events.
• Violations (no sign posting, no cleanup) – Actual cost of staff time to post signs and/or cleanup.
No permits issued until paid. If signs are not posted, vehicles will not be towed.
Street Closures:
• 30-day notice is required.
• Applicant to provide a drawing mapping out the event, to include mobile food vending locations
(if any).
• Only issued for events that partner with the DDA/Main Street and fit criteria that it will
establish, including being open to the general public and not charging for admission.
• Single-block closures will rotate (E. Maumee, N. Main, S. Main). W. Maumee on request.
• $150 fee for each single block.
• $325 for all four blocks.
• No fee is paid for DDA/Main Street sponsored* events.
• Violations (no sign posting, no cleanup) – Actual cost of staff time to post signs and/or cleanup.
No new permits issued until paid. If signs are not posted, vehicles will not be towed.
Farmers’ Market Pavilion Rentals:
• DDA/Main Street will manage pavilion rentals going forward and receive related revenue.
Residential street closure:
• 30-day notice is required.
• 50% of affected properties have to sign off.
• $150 fee.
* ”Sponsored” means that the DDA receives all event-related revenue.

The regular meeting of the Adrian City Commission is scheduled for tonight at 7pm, at the City Chambers Building on East Maumee Street in Adrian.
