Morenci, MI – The City of Morenci was awarded a Spark Grant in the amount of $863,500 from the Michigan DNR to fund the reactivation of Stephenson Park.
The money will be used to fund new and accessible playground installations, a quarter-mile paved walking path that will extend the around the perimeter of the park, a full-size basketball court, a pickle ball court, pavilions, seating, lighting and parking.
Out of 462 grant applications the DNR received, Morenci’s Stephenson Park was chosen as one of the 21 projects to be funded.
Project planning will continue as the grant awards are distributed. The projects must be completed by December 31st, 2026.
