Adrian, MI – The Lenawee Historical Society is in the preliminary stages of a building renovation and repair project to seal the exterior envelope against water and moisture and renovate the interior by repairing plaster and paint damaged by moisture and water over the years and to give the place a general facelift.

The plan for the 1909 Carnegie Library building breaks down into several phases to take place over the next few years, according to the group’s monthly newsletter.

The first phase will be to seal the foundation below grade and replace and repair drain tiles to direct water away from the building. The second phase will include tuckpointing the brick above grade and sealing around the windows.

Phase 3 includes the application of a waterproofing coating to exterior walls above grade. This work will complete the water management efforts, which are a natural follow-on to work that began several years ago when the roof was replaced.

The final phase, Phase 4, will repair damaged plaster and paint.

Once the society has a few proposals in hand for Phase 1, they can begin the process of applying for grants to cover a large part of the cost, and fund raising will take care of the rest.
