Dundee, MI – A car chase that started in Toledo ended with a fatality in Dundee on Friday.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said that the crash occurred at the intersection of West Monroe Street and Tecumseh Street at about 10 p.m.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the subject failed to stop for officers. It was reported that the male operator of a 2007 Ford Fusion was known to have active felony warrants for his arrest.

The pursuit traveled northbound on Interstate 75 from the State of Ohio. The operator exited the freeway at exit 2 in Michigan… and continued to flee on several roadways within southern Monroe County.

During the pursuit, Stop Sticks were deployed by Monroe County Deputies deflating two of the Ford’s tires. The male operator continued to flee, traveling at a high rate of speed, into the Village of Dundee.

The driver then struck a utility pole, and the vehicle caught fire. Sheriff’s deputies extracted both the male operator and female passenger. The operator was identified as a 31-year-old Napoleon, Ohio man and the front seat passenger was identified as a 46-year old female, of Leipsic, Ohio. The man was transported to an area hospital listed in critical condition.

The 46-year-old was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. At the time of the crash, neither were wearing safety belts. The airbags did not deploy… and speed is a factor regarding the crash, which is under investigation.
