Adrian, MI – The employees of Adrian Steel donated more than 10,000 pounds of food and $23,616 to Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry in the month of December. Neighbors of Hope said that this is the sixth year the employees have organized an annual food drive to benefit Fishes & Loaves. Each year the employees have a theme for their effort, with this year’s being “One Can can make a difference and so Can Cash”. The employees create teams to see who can collect the most with the winner earning bragging rights for a year.
“We are truly blessed to partner with this employee driven effort each year,” explains Pastor Steven Palmer, Executive Director of Neighbors of Hope. “It is so encouraging to me to see that this effort is completely undertaken by the employees of Adrian Steel. The company supports their effort, but all of the food and funds are collected and raised by the employees themselves.”
Since this partnership began in December of 2016, nearly 200,000 pounds of food has been collected by the Adrian Steel employees and distributed through Fishes & Loaves. The employees are planning a follow-up campaign in February to add to what they have already collected.
“Food insecurity in our community is climbing and these food drives help us tremendously in our effort to collect and distribute food to those in need in our community,” says Pastor Steven Palmer. “Fishes & Loaves distributes around 100,000 pounds of food each year. But we cannot do that without help,” he continues, “and the employees of Adrian Steel, definitely help.”
