Holland, MI – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is urging current and former Hope College students who believe they were impacted by the data breach announced earlier this month to take appropriate steps to protect their information from identity theft.
Hope College reported a massive data breach to the Montana Attorney General’s office after they discovered an unauthorized party had gained access to their confidential files. Full names, dates of birth, Social Security Numbers, driver’s license and student identification numbers may have been compromised.
Nessel urges anyone who believes they were impacted by the Hope College breach to monitor their credit, consider placing a free credit freeze on their credit report, and placing a fraud alert on their credit report.
If you believe you are a victim of identity theft, visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website for assistance on how to report it and recover from it—or contact the Attorney General’s Office for help.
Hope College is offering 12-months of free credit monitoring service to those affected.
