Adrian, MI – ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital has announced Sandra Ash, RN the recipient for the fourth quarter DAISY Award.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day.
Ash has been an employee for eighteen years. Her nominator said: “Sandy was absolutely amazing! I loved having her as my nurse. She was very energetic and informative on what she was doing. She talked with me and my husband every time she checked on us. She was very dedicated to seeing if we needed anything and to make sure we were as comfortable as possible. She kept us in the loop with what she was updating Dr. Cherfan about and what his response was. She offered great advice, relayed her own personal experiences and was just a wonderful person to be around while in early labor. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible.”
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
