Brooklyn, MI – The Village of Brooklyn has had success in its fifth attempt in the competitive grant process for Fiscal Year 2025 funding through the Michigan Department of Transportation Local Bridge Program.
A news release from the Village said that Brooklyn’s Mill St. Bridge is a three-span arch filled structure with decorative stone headwalls that cover the South Branch of the River Raisin. It was constructed in 1925 and improved in 1984. The bridge is just downstream of a dam structure that was once part of a Ford Motor Company facility on the site.
The program award covers 75% of the estimated $1,154,000 cost of the bridge replacement. Planning for the project in Fiscal Year 2025 will allow the village to seek additional sources to cover the portion not funded by the MDOT program.
