Morenci Fire Dept. Thanks Area Depts. and Volunteers for their Help in Thanksgiving Double Barn Fire

Morenci, MI – Over a dozen area fire departments fought a double barn fire near the City of Morenci on Thanksgiving. The MFD published a thank-you on their social media to the crews that assisted.

In the post on the Morenci Fire Department Facebook page, the double barn fire was in Seneca Township, and involved 20 tankers, 2 drafting sites along with the City of Morenci municipal water system was utilized for water. 1,396,100 gallons of water were used, in addition to 2,200 feet of hose. There were also 6 master streams, 1 Tower ladder and multiple hand lines was utilized.

Crews were dispatched at 5:45am Thursday, were on the scene at 5:54am, and cleared the scene at 9:49pm. On arrival, there was (2) 200 x 500 foot barns, one fully involved and the other barn was a working fire, there was approximately 6,000 bales of straw in each barn. Fire crews were able to save 3 pieces of farm machinery and a pickup before the second barn  became fully involved. Two other buildings on the property was saved.

Morenci Fire also thanked the Morenci EMS crew Chad Corbin and Dennis Mcnett for the help on arrival, stretching lines, being a extra set of eyes and as the day went on, running the pump on engine 1. Morenci DPW crew, Eric Emmons and John Shaffer for all the support in town and shuttling fuel for us, and City Administrator Brad Moran with getting together the food and drinks, and Tim Stutzman for the fuel truck at the drafting sites to  fuel tankers.
