Adrian, MI – The lawyer representing the victim of the Sheriff’s Deputy involved shooting back in April reached out to WLEN News with comments from her client. This is what was sent:
“My name is Tamaris Henagan and I represent the victim in the officer-involved shooting. My client chooses to remain anonymous at this time, and I will grant that request out of respect for his privacy and his need to continue healing. However, we would like to provide some clarity to the above-named story.
On April 3, 2022, my client was at the home in the 500 block of Erie St when shots were fired. However, he was not the individual who fired the shots. While police may have believed they had located the correct suspect, my client was found unarmed in an empty residential lot and was shot and severely injured by a Lenawee County Deputy.
Police reports will confirm that the individual who was shot was unarmed and that the officer openly admits to accidentally firing his gun. At no time was my client resisting, fleeing, or threatening any officer. After a thorough investigation, he has not been charged with firing a weapon and there is no evidence to suggest that he was the correct suspect. Finally, my client’s injuries from the shooting were so severe that he spent several weeks in the hospital and endured two life-saving surgeries.
The events are tragic on both sides of the equation and at this time we are not making statements of blame toward the officer or the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. To date, both the police agency and the state investigators have handled this matter with extreme professionalism and respect for my client. We are simply reaching out to clarify the record and assist in accurate reporting of the news.”
