Lenawee County Deputy Arraigned on Charges Stemming from April Shooting in Adrian

Adrian, MI – The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Michigan State Police regarding their investigation of an officer-involved shooting from early April.

According to State Police Investigators, a warrant has been issued by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office charging Lenawee County Sheriff’s Deputy Kirk June with Careless Discharge of a Firearm Causing Injury. He has been arraigned on the charges. A news release by the Sheriff’s Office said that June will remain on administrative leave at this stage of the criminal proceedings. The Sheriff’s Office will monitor the criminal proceedings and make any necessary decision’s regarding the situation.

The MSP investigation began on April 3rd, 2022 at the request of the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. On that date, the Adrian City Police Department asked for assistance in locating a suspect who had pulled a gun at a residence located in the 500 block of Erie Street in Adrian and fired shots in the residence. Deputy June was dispatched to help Officers search for the suspect who had fled the house on foot and was believed to be in the area. June, a 31- year veteran and K-9 Handler, located the suspect hiding in a vacant lot adjacent to the residence. A shot was fired by the Deputy, striking the suspect, who was transported to a local area hospital and treated for gunshot wounds.

At that time, Deputy June was placed on administrative leave per Sheriff’s Office policy while Michigan State Police investigated. For additional information, the Sheriff’s Office says to contact the Michigan State Police.
