Tecumseh, MI – Following tonight’s special Board of Education meeting, board president Tony Rebottaro and Superintendent Rick Hilderley announced a separation agreement has been reached with former Tecumseh High School Principal Dennis Niles.

The terms of the agreement state that Mr. Niles shall separate and leave his employment with the District in all capacities as of Friday, July 29, 2022. Also, Mr. Niles has agreed to not apply again for employment at Tecumseh Public Schools.

As part of the separation agreement, the Tecumseh Public School System will pay Mr. Niles a sum of $80,000.

“We understand that there were community members that wished for a quicker resolution to this  issue, however, the board handled this matter in a manner that recognized everyone’s legal interests and was done with guidance from our attorney,” said Rebottaro.

The board stands firm in that student welfare and safety will always be at the forefront of every decision they make and is convinced that this resolution is in the best interests of the District and its students.

“The Board and Superintendent Hilderley again thank the students for coming forward with their concerns,” Rebottaro said. “With this resolution, we look forward to a successful 2022/2023 school year and together with our staff will work to achieve the goals established in our Strategic Plan.”
