Adrian, MI – The Lenawee County Health Department is participating in a VectorBorne Disease Surveillance and Prevention Program in coordination with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The program will be geared toward identifying populations of potentially invasive species capable of transmitting the Zika virus and identifying populations of deer ticks, capable of transmitting Lyme disease or other diseases.

Here are some precautions you can take to protect yourself against vector-borne illnesses that can be transmitted through mosquito and tick bites:

  • Use an EPA-approved insect repellent
  • Wear protective clothing
  • Landscape for tick prevention
  • Consider pesticide application
  • Perform regular tick checks
