Adrian, MI – More than 120 volunteers of all ages gathered Saturday in Adrian to pack approximately 38,000 meals bound for a new destination — Ukrainian refugees.
A release sent to WLEN News said that more than a dozen local churches and school staff members helped with the Kids Against Hunger project. Last year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but it returned once again to Michener Elementary School.
Each package is filled using scoops from four basic, dry ingredients: rice, vitamin-fortified crushed soy, a dehydrated vegetable blend, and a vitamin and mineral powder. The sealed packages have a long shelf life and can be cooked with just boiling water.
Meals in previous years have been split between local food pantries and hard-hit outside areas. This year’s main focus is to rush supplies to Poland to assist the estimated 1.2 million refugees who have fled war-torn Ukraine.
