
Sylvania, Ohio – A former Lenawee County legislator from the 70’s and 80’s has passed away at the age of 95.
John Mowat Jr. passed away on Valentine’s Day in Sylvania, Ohio. “Jack” was born in Chicago, graduated from Adrian High School in 1944, then served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Michigan State College with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. Jack owned and managed Mowat and Son Orchards in Adrian until 1988.
In 1970 Jack was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives where he served for 8 years. In ‘78 he was elected to the Michigan State Senate until he stepped down in 1982. He then served as Executive Director for the Republican Party in the Michigan House of Representatives.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held Saturday, March 5th at Chaloner & Co. in Adrian from 1 to 4 pm.
