Adrian, MI – A house fire in Adrian sent two people to the hospital, including one firefighter, for evaluation of smoke inhalation on Thursday night.

City of Adrian Fire Chief Aric Massingill told WLEN News that they were dispatched to the structure fire on Budlong Street just after 11pm.

Crews from Adrian City, Madison and Adrian Township responded initially to the scene, and were able to knock-down the initial flames that were mainly in the bedroom and bathroom area of the home.

A second call for fire departments was made for Palmyra, Raisin, and Cambridge Townships … and Tecumseh City.

The main fire was knocked down relatively quickly, but flames then spread through hidden voids in the structure for hours. Fire crews left the scene six hours after the initial call.

The cause of the fire is uncertain, but Chief Massingill told WLEN News Friday afternoon that at this time it is not suspicious in nature, but is under investigation.

The lone occupant and one City of Adrian Firefighter were sent to the hospital for evaluation for smoke inhalation.
