Monroe, MI – Judy Shoemaker Hicks, former Tecumseh resident, died at her home in Monroe after a brief battle with cancer. Surrounded by her loving family, she passed peacefully on January 18th. Judy was born in Hudson to Duane and Virginia (Willett) Shoemaker and attended Morenci High School, graduating with the class of 1966. She would continue her education at Siena Heights University, where she received her bachelor’s degree.

On January 18, 1969, Judy married the love of her life, Gary Hicks. The couple would be blessed with son, Joshua and daughter, Molly. Judy and Gary were serial entrepreneurs, successfully owning and operating multiple businesses including Sudzy Duz It Car Wash and Gary’s Quick Lube businesses in Tecumseh. After retiring from the direct operations of these businesses, Judy discovered her true calling as a poet and author. She founded the Destiny House non-profit organization and became a prolific scribe of God inspired “prayoems” that resulted in content for more than 40 books.

Private services for Judy are being planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service.
