Tecumseh Fraud Case Leads to Brief Foot Chase, Arrest

tecumseh-police-2

Tecumseh, MI – The Tecumseh Police Department responded to a residence in the City regarding a potential fraud case, in which the fraudster pretends to be a family member.

The TPD reported that this “family member” asks for a large sum of money in order to get out of some legal trouble. While this scam has been going around for some time, this scenario was a little different, as someone was going to come to the residence to pick up the cash. Officers arrived and assisted the potential victim in continuing with the scam, so that officers could detain the suspects for questioning.

When the suspects arrived, officers were inside the residence and after a brief foot chase, they were both taken into custody and lodged at the Lenawee County Jail for fraud – larceny by conversion. The Tecumseh Police Department was assisted by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department and the Regional Irish Hills Narcotics Office (RHINO) members.

Additionally, no government agency will ever request payment via gift card or solicit payment by phone. If you have any questions or believe that you may have been a victim of fraud, please contact your local police agency.
