Madison Twp., MI – A 76-year-old Lenawee County resident died when a tree was blown over onto their car Saturday afternoon.
The Madison Township Police Department reports that the accident happened at around 1:50pm on Treat Highway near the intersection of McPhail Drive.
The vehicle was traveling southbound on Treat Hwy when a large tree fell on top of the vehicle due to the high wind conditions. The impact of the tree fell on top of the vehicle and caused severe damage. The driver suffered fatal injuries from the impact of the tree. The other occupant suffered injuries and was transported to Hickman Hospital.
The driver of the was identified as Benny Otto Wellman, from the Adrian area.
The Madison Township Police Department was assisted by the Madison Township Fire Department and the Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team.
