Adrian, MI – A new idea for the Adrian Mall has been proposed to the City’s Planning Commission. After a concept with a marijuana component was turned down by the City Commissioners, a mixed-use idea has emerged.
The artist renderings shown to the group included retail, dining, self-storage, and housing all on the Adrian Mall property.
If approved, the part of the existing mall that has been condemned by the City…the main corridor area…would be demolished. In its place would be a boulevard between Ollie’s and Dunhams. The area in between would have space for retail outlets, parking, and green space.
Under the proposed plan, the old Elder-Beerman store would be sold to New Life Church, and the old JC Penny’s location would become a self-storage facility. The northeastern part of the property would be reserved for housing…likely apartments.
The idea would also include out-lots, which would be made available for purchase, around the exterior of the property…with two facing US 223, and others on the western side…where the large parking lot is now.
No formal vote was taken on the project, but the commission expressed unanimous support for the concept. Stay tuned to 103.9 WLEN for updates on the project at the Adrian Mall.
