Monroe, MI – A reported stolen vehicle was recovered after a chase on I-75 in Monroe County.
Sheriff Goodnough said that a traffic stop was initiated, however the driver failed to stop and began traveling at high speeds to avoid capture. The vehicle continued along southbound I-75, where the driver exited the freeway.
As the vehicle slowed, the driver jumped from the vehicle while it was still in motion and fled on foot towards a wooded area. Several Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with Michigan State Police Troopers pursued the driver on foot, where he was quickly apprehended. During the apprehension the driver was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol and a knife.
The 18 year old suspect from Maple Heights, Ohio was turned over to the Southgate Police Department, where he is facing criminal charges for the original automobile theft incident. Criminal charges are also being sought in Monroe County.
