Multi-Vehicle Crash on US-23 Results in Fatality Monday Morning

Monroe County, MI – A 74-year-old died in a multi-vehicle crash on US-23 Monday morning.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported that the crash occurred on Northbound US 23 in Dundee Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 41-year-old Michigan Center man was traveling south of Brewer Road. While in motion, and for unknown reasons, the vehicle rear-ended a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. The 74-year-old operator of the Hyundai was slowing down for stopped traffic.

After the initial crash, the Hyundai was pushed forward into the rear of a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The Nissan was then pushed forward into the rear of a 2021 Mazda 6.

The operator of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. All other persons involved in the crash were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

It is unknown at this time whether excessive speed and/or intoxicating substances were a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
