Jackson County Educator Honored with Excellence in Education Award from MI Lottery

Jackson County, MI – A Jackson County educator known as ‘one of the most sincere and inspirational teachers you will ever meet’ has been honored with an Excellence in Education award from the Michigan Lottery.

The award winner, Kristen Rice, is a second-grade teacher at Bean Elementary. She said she knew she wanted to be a teacher in second grade. Rice said that sharing her love of reading is her favorite part of being an educator.

Rice earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Spring Arbor University. She has been an educator for 21 years.

Winners of the weekly award receive a plaque, a $1,500 cash prize, and a $500 grant to their classroom, school, or school district. One of the weekly winners will be selected as the Educator of the Year and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.
