Monroe County, MI – A swimmer’s body was recovered from Lake Erie after a multi-day search for him when he did not resurface.
Monroe County Central Dispatch received a 911 call of the missing swimmer approximately 3/4 mile from shore straight out from Sterling State Park on Sunday evening. The swimmer, 59-year-old Ghaleb Assaf from Dearborn Heights, entered the water to swim from the boat he was on and did not resurface.
The search continued on Monday and Tuesday. At about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division and Dive Team located and recovered Assaf’s body from Lake Erie in the area of the park.
