
Lenawee County, MI – As Lenawee County Students take part in their first day back for the 2021-2022 school year, it is important to take school bus safety into account.
Everyday in the State of Michigan there are approximately 600,000 school children, riding 12,000 school buses over 900,000 miles.
In May of 2019, school bus drivers took part in a survey to record how many motorists passed by their school bus when they had the red lights flashing. On one day in particular, 508 motorists ran the school bus’s red lights. Over the last three years of this one day survey, the average is 622 illegal pass-bys per day.
In July of this year, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed into law a package of school bus safety and security bills, aimed to help protect children going to and from the school bus. Here is a public service announcement highlighting safety improvements…
