
Monroe County, MI – Guns were drawn during an attempted acquisition of marijuana in Monroe County Sunday night.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported that the incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at the Pilot Travel Center in Frenchtown Township.
Initial investigation revealed that a 21 year old Newport man and a 22 year old Dundee man arranged a meeting to exchange marijuana. During the meeting, the Dundee man produced a handgun and attempted to rob the Newport man.
A struggle ensued. During the struggle, another man that was with the Dundee man produced an assault rifle. The Newport man attempted to flee the scene in his car but crashed. No one reported any injuries.
Detectives approached the person of interest near a residence in LaSalle Township. The man discarded a handgun and fled. After a coordinated search of the area, the man was taken into custody without incident. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on unrelated charges.
