Hudson, MI – The Hudson City Council voted to stop paying severance money to Steven Hartsel, their former City Manager.

The 5-2 tally Tuesday night showed that the Council is clearly split on the issue…with Mayor Carmel Camp, Pam Ely, Rick Moreno, Carl Sword, and Darlene VandeZande voting ‘yes’ … and Lee Daugherty and Lee Ann Minton voting ‘no.’

Hartsel was placed on administrative leave back in late April when it was discovered that the city was running a nearly $400,000 deficit in their utilities fund. Hartsel told WLEN News that he terminated his contract with the City of Hudson in early July.

From this point, it is unclear which direction the City, or Hartsel, will go. The former manager could take the City to court to get his severance pay.

In addition to the vote on Tuesday, Interim City Manager Charles Weir told WLEN News that their newly-hired City Attorney… George Truchan … has resigned from his position due to personal reasons.
