Morenci, MI – A Lenawee County man in a Michigan Correctional Facility for unlawful imprisonment of his three sons after they went missing from Morenci over 10 years ago will have a parole hearing later this month…one year earlier than originally determined.

Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton have been missing since the day after Thanksgiving in 2010…when their father, John Skelton, failed to return the boys to their mother, Tanya Zuvers.

In the past, Skelton has claimed he gave the children to an underground organization to protect them from abuse.

He was denied parole back in 2020, and at the time it was determined that he would be eligible for another parole hearing in 2022.

Chris Gautz, Public Information Officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections, told WLEN News Wednesday that the department conducted a normal internal review of their parole decisions, and realized that their action with Skelton did not agree with a law that was put in place in 2018. That law requires cases such as Skelton’s to not be given anything longer than a 12-month continuance.

Gautz said that Skelton will be seen by the board later this month… the week of August 23rd. If granted parole, his eligibility date is November 29th of this year. If he were denied again, the date would move to November 29th, 2022 and the board would have to interview him again around this time next year.

Community members have the ability to contact the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Board prior to the hearing.
