Hudson, MI – City of Hudson residents will likely see an increase in their water and sewer rates in the coming weeks.
Interim City Manager Charles Weir told WLEN News that the rates should have been re-evaluated annually, but that was not the case.
He said in order to build-up a utilities fund balance… eventually…that can pay for operations and maintenance for City water treatment facilities, it was recommended to Hudson that the rates be increased.
Weir said that the Council looking at increasing these rates is not directly related to the current financial crisis the City is in right now…
There was a resolution on the agenda at Council’s Tuesday meeting, but they did not vote on it because…per their Charter…they cannot collect monthly bills. To change from a quarterly collection to a monthly one, Interim Manager Weir said that an Ordinance change must take place…
In order to pay-off the City’s water and sewer bonds, Council is also looking at increasing payments on that as well.
