Adrian, MI – Natalie Spaulding, a senior at Lenawee Christian School, won the top prize of $200 in the 2021 Lenawee Right to Life Oratory contest Friday night, March 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Spaulding, of Adrian, will now advance to the state Right to Life Oratory contest in Charlotte, Michigan, to be held on May 22. To grab the attention of her audience, Spaulding told the story of 35-year-old Dekeesha McPhearson, a pregnant Arkansas woman who was killed in October 2020. Because of Arkansas’s fetal homicide law, her killer will face prosecution of two homicides. Spaulding argues in her speech that all unborn babies should be treated as persons with the basic human right to life.
Spaulding’s 7-minute speech earned her top honors, while one given by Lance Miletich, a homeschool student from Blissfield, placed second, earning him $100. Anna Winkelman, a senior at Madison High School placed third with a $50 prize and Natalie Morr, a sophomore at Lenawee Christian School, placed fourth with a $25 prize.
