Adrian, MI – Adrian College President Jeffrey Docking will present his annual State of the College Address virtually this year at 12:15 p.m., on Friday, April 9. The title for the event is “The College of the Future.”
“We chose this title because higher education needs to evolve as quickly as the world around it. Adrian College continues to be on the leading edge of what students and families want, and what America needs in its college grads,” Docking said.
The event will be pre-recorded on Adrian College’s campus, in several locations. Docking will discuss how Adrian College was able to stay open during the global pandemic and provide students in-person classes, athletic competitions, regular vacation and break periods, and a relatively normal college experience.
Adrian College saw its largest-ever enrollment for the 2021 spring semester. Docking believes the increased enrollment was because students wanted face-to-face classes on campus, and that’s what Adrian College offered.
“We were able to create a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan that worked, because our students believed in what we were doing and followed our safety precautions,” Docking said. “We’ve had some ups and downs, but everyone from faculty, staff and students did a great job of keeping our campus as safe and healthy as possible, so we could offer face-to-face instruction.”
More that 10,000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted over the past year under the direction of Adrian College’s Student Health Center Director, Emily Kist. She said 3,370 on-campus HELIX PCR tests and 6,819 on-campus athletic surveillance rapid antigen tests have been given. In addition, there have been 170 on-campus ProMedica PCR tests, and 246 rapid antigen tests conducted in Adrian College’s Student Health Clinic.
Docking said The State of the College program will recap an extraordinary year on campus, and outline several exciting future initiatives in new majors, campus construction projects, athletic teams, student scholarships, and many other things important to creating “The College of the Future.” To watch the program, visit adrian.edu/live.
