Adrian, MI – Siena Heights University and its food service partner, SHU Dining, was recognized by the Colleges of Distinction organization’s recent article entitled, “Best College Dining Halls,” which was recently released on its web site.

SHU Dining, part of the Chartwells Higher Ed company, was recognized for its service during the COVID-19 pandemic, including its take-out options as well as hand delivering meals to students quarantined on campus.

“What an uplifting surprise to have learned that SHU Dining has been recognized by Colleges of Distinction,” said SHU Dining Director of Dining Services Michael Miller. “All credit goes to the SHU Dining staff as they are on the ‘front lines’ serving our student guests every day.”

The Colleges of Distinction article also recognized SHU Dining for coordinating its menu for special occasions like Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month and Thanksgiving. SHU Dining also has worked at helping the less fortunate in the Lenawee community.

The article also cited one of SHU Dining’s longtime employees, Sandy Vanderlaan, who recently received an Honorary Alumni Award from the university for her personalized service to students, faculty and staff over her 35-year-plus career.

“The Chartwells’ SHU Dining Team are dedicated partners to Siena Heights University,” said SHU Dean for Students Michael Orlando. “They willingly adapt to our students’ feedback and wonderfully support key programming aspects throughout the year. From Admissions to Athletics, Diversity and Inclusion to Student Engagement, and Siena Serves to supporting students in need, SHU Dining truly cares and consistently goes above and beyond.”

The dining room located in the McLaughlin University Center even comes equipped with a unique, made-to-order Mongolian grill, where people can have their food prepared right in front of them.

Siena Heights was one of 15 dining halls nationally recognized in the article, and the only institution in Michigan.
