Adrian, MI – The Adrian District Library invites all ages to a Black History Month program hosted in collaboration with the Lenawee Historical Museum. “The Underground Railroad in Lenawee County” will be hosted virtually via Zoom on Monday, February 15th at 6:30 p.m.

Bruce Neal from the Lenawee Historical Museum will bring the local past to life as he tells stories about Lenawee County’s history as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Neal will use photos and more to highlight Lenawee County’s abolitionist activities and activists, including renowned abolitionist Laura Smith Haviland — simply known as “Aunt Laura.”

“Aunt Laura is easily Lenawee County’s most recognizable figure in the abolitionist movement,” said Jennifer Noble, the adult and teen services librarian for the Adrian District Library. “But it’s impressive how active the rest of the community was in ferrying people north to freedom.”

Registration is required for this virtual event. A Zoom invitation will be sent out the afternoon of the event. All ages are welcome. No library card is necessary to register.
