Adrian, MI – The State of Michigan has issued a change in their process of vaccine distribution. How will it impact Lenawee County?
Previously, local public health departments and approved providers would request the level of vaccine needed for their jurisdictions. The State would then allocate vaccine based on availability which resulted in jurisdictions receiving less vaccine than requested.
The State of Michigan is no longer accepting requests from local public health departments and approved providers but will be utilizing the following factors to guide their distribution levels: (1) amount of vaccine received each week from the federal government; (2) population of each community; and (3) risk factors present within the community. These factors are being used to attempt to ensure equitable distribution throughout the State.
Lenawee County Health Department Officer Martha Hall told WLEN News on Friday that she does not anticipate changes to vaccine distribution to Lenawee, but we won’t know for sure until the new process is implemented…
Hall said that the Health Department has not had issues administering the vaccine allocations that they have been receiving from the State of Michigan…
The Health Department reported Friday that out of a Lenawee County population of just under 100,000 residents, there are approximately 30,000 people that meet the current vaccination requirements.
A news release stated that: “Last week the State only provided the Lenawee County Health Department with a total of 500 doses of vaccine to be administered this week. We are constantly pressing for additional vaccine and demonstrating our County’s ability to provide mass vaccination. Unfortunately, our only ability to obtain vaccine is through the federal and state government. We cannot make direct requests to the companies manufacturing the vaccine.”
You can register for the vaccine the LCHD website (www.lenawee.mi.us) and they will email you to schedule your appointment when vaccine appointments are available for your priority group.
