Hudson, MI – A Hudson area restaurant that has stayed open despite orders from the State of Michigan to close now has a hearing regarding a Cease and Desist Order issued by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development scheduled for January, 2021.

Cravins hosted a “Freedom Rally” on November 29th in defiance of orders issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that closed Michigan dine-in services. Owner, Vicki Gerig, spoke with WLEN News back in November, and she said that during the first shut-down of indoor dining they could not keep their doors open very long because of the low volume of to-go orders.

When asked about concerns Gerig has about possible consequences, she said “I’ll have to play it one day at a time and see what happens.”

She said that she doesn’t want a check this time around, similar to the spring of this year.

The Lenawee County Health Department issued a Cease and Desist Order on December 1st. LCHD Health Officer Martha Hall told WLEN News that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued a citation for violation of the epidemic order on December 1st, which included a $1,000 fine.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) issued a Cease and Desist Order on December 4th. A hearing regarding the order issued by MDARD is scheduled for January 6th, 2021.

Hall said that the Lenawee County Health Department continues to document non-compliance of the epidemic order for use by both MDHHS and MDARD in their enforcement activities.
