Lenawee County, MI – Today was a historic day at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital (CVHH). Frontline workers began receiving the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in the afternoon. Molly LaPointe, RN, Emergency Services was the first employee to receive the vaccine. Molly’s supervisor, Barb Gillen, RN, Director of Emergency Services was the second employee to receive it. Molly and Barb have truly been on the front lines during this pandemic, providing care to patients as they have come through the doors of the Emergency Department.
Molly and Barb were honored to be the first two receiving the vaccine. “I care about my family and my patients,” said Molly after receiving the vaccine. “If it saves one life it’s worth it.” Barb got the vaccine because, “Our staff, my family, and our patients matter.”

Over 20 CVHH employees were vaccinated on the first day. All employees that received their vaccine will receive a second dose in four weeks.
The distribution of the vaccine is in the early vaccination phase, with supplies being limited. As the number of available doses increases, COVID-19 vaccines will be available to all Michigan residents who choose to be vaccinated. Vaccinations are being administered to essential healthcare workers and personnel caring for COIVD-19 patients.

There are steps you can take to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protected yourself and loved ones are the 3 W’s – Wear a mask, Wash your hands, Watch your distance.
