Adrian, MI – Today is the official beginning of winter, but there is hope for those of you that are not fans of the cold and dark days in Michigan this time of year.

Today is the Winter Solstice for the Northern Hemisphere, which means today is the shortest day, and longest night, of the year… in terms of daylight.

Our hours of daylight—the period of time each day between sunrise and sunset—have been growing slightly shorter each day since the summer solstice last June, which is the longest day of the year… at least in terms of light.

The good news? The days will begin to grow longer and will continue to do so until we reach the summer solstice again.

Tune into our local and state newscasts, anytime day or night, for this story and more.
