Adrian City Commission Planning a Vote to Change Public Comment at Meetings

Adrian, MI – The Adrian City Commission will be voting on a resolution Monday night about changes to public comment times during meetings.

The proposed change would set a time limit of three minutes for public comment related to an ordinance, resolution, or general public comment time.

As it is currently, there is no cap on public comment time for ordinances or resolutions. For general public comment, there is a three minute time limit.

In an attempt to decrease the chance of a filibuster situation… and other reasoning, the commission will vote on a resolution limiting the public time for all items to three minutes.

Under the proposed resolution, the Commission may lift the three minute time limit if they find it necessary… but must be approved by a majority vote.

The resolution states that the time limits are not being imposed to silence the public but rather to encourage preparation and respect for other citizens that may want to speak.

The Adrian City Commission will meet virtually Monday night for a pre meeting at 5:30pm, and their regular meeting at 7pm.
