Adrian, MI – Adrian Public Schools Superintendent Bob Behnke released the following after the announcement of the return to in-person education at Michigan high schools:
“This afternoon, Robert Gordon, the Director of MI-DHHS lifted the order that had previously restricted in-person instruction at the high school level. This allows local districts and local health departments to collectively work together to determine if schools should return to in-person learning. In consultation with the Lenawee County Health Department, Adrian High School, as well as all grades for Adrian Public Schools, will be in session on Monday, December 21st, 2020. Transportation will take place as normal along with food service.
Since the start of the “pause” Adrian Public Schools students in grades K-8 continued receiving in-person instruction for the past month, or 21 days of instruction. Our elementary and middle school students have been having successful experiences and much needed academic attention and growth. Our students learn best in school and our teachers teach best in-person. While there are only two days of instruction scheduled for next week, our high school students have not had in-person instruction in over a month. To not come to school next week undermines the importance of the critical aspects of teaching and learning for our students.
There were also several updates related to athletics and extracurricular activities in the most recent order. The Michigan High School Athletic Association Representative Council met and released the following statement on athletics [1].
As an important reminder, students should follow the protocols for wearing a mask, not coming to school if they are feeling sick or ill, making sure they wash their hands, and maintaining proper social distancing. Staff will also be providing a refresher to students as well. We look forward to seeing everyone next week.”
