Adrian, MI – Trying to stay one step ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adrian College has announced its plans for a safe return to campus for the Spring semester as more than 1,500 students are expected to finish out the 2020-2021 school year beginning in January.
In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and promote a safe campus community, Adrian College is requiring all students to receive a viral test for COVID-19 no more than five days before their arrival on campus for the Spring 2021 semester. Viral tests check samples in respiratory systems and tell if the tested person currently has an infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
“Our students have several testing options available,” Emily Kist, Adrian College’s Student Health Center director said. “We wanted to let them know our plans well in advance of the spring semester so we can help with any issues that may arise.”
Adrian College’s students may opt for COVID-19 testing through Global7, a company that offers at- home COVID-19 saliva collection kits. Students will register their test kit with Adrian College. Test kits can be ordered (https://adriancollege.g7test.com/ ) at any time so students may be prepared to send in their kit in a timely manner. The cost of the test kit is the responsibility of the student. Once ordered, the kit will be overnighted to the student’s home.
Students who do not wish to obtain a test from Global7 may get a test in their community or contact the Student Health Center at achealthcenter@adrian.edu to discuss other available testing options. Rapid antigen and PCR tests will be accepted. Results of the student’s COVID-19 test are to be uploaded to Magnus Health under the “COVID-19 Testing Form” tab.
Students are being asked to self-quarantine at home between the date their test is administered and their return to campus. Students who do not get a COVID-19 test will not be able to attend face-to- face courses until a negative test result is received and uploaded into Magnus Health. Student- athletes who do not get a COVID-19 test will not be allowed to participate in athletic practices, workouts, or competitions until a negative test result is received and uploaded into Magnus Health.
To return to in-person instruction, students must show their test verification in Magnus or their negative test result to their professor on their first day of their classes. Students receiving a negative test result may return to campus on January 10, or their designated move-in date, once the test result has been uploaded to Magnus.
Those receiving a positive test result are not to move onto campus and are to isolate at home for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms (or positive test if asymptomatic), and must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications before returning to campus. Students with positive results are to contact the Students Health Center for further guidance and direction.
Students who test positive will be encouraged to work directly with their professors and complete academic assignments during isolation. Academic Services will be in contact with isolated students to determine the need for further accommodations. Students with a pending test result are not to move onto campus until their negative test result is received and submitted to Magnus Health.
All students have access to Student Health Center medical services throughout their course of illness and after release from isolation. A student is not required to submit a pre-arrival test result if one of the following applies:
The student tested positive for COVID-19 in the 90 day period prior to returning to campus for Spring 2021 (e.g. documented infection after October 12 for a January 10 move-in) and the positive test result has been provided to the Student Health Center or uploaded into Magnus under the “COVID-19 Testing Form” tab.
The student will not be physically present on campus in the spring semester or is approved for an exemption by the Director of the Student Health Center and college Medical Director.
