Adrian, MI – In response to the unprecedented need for financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Kiwanis Club of Adrian proposed and voted on an $80,000 gift to the Adrian community. 16 area nonprofits recently received $5,000 to be used towards the area of most need for the individual organization.

Travis Havens, President and CEO of Hospice of Lenawee, said, “Hospice of Lenawee is grateful to be one of the many local non-profit organizations to receive financial support from the Kiwanis Club of Adrian during the pandemic. Thanks to Kiwanis, Hospice of Lenawee was able to provide charity care for patients that could not otherwise afford to pay for services.”

The gift of $80,000 to area nonprofits is just one way the Kiwanis Club of Adrian continues to serve the community. On Thanksgiving Day, Kiwanis, Adrian Public Schools, and Alpha Koney Island teamed up to serve 725 meals to Adrian residents in need.

Club members continue to share the spirit of Christmas by planning to shop, wrap, and deliver presents to the Salvation Army – this year purchasing over $4,100 in presents for 41 people within eight families.

On December 9, as part of a 30+ year partnership with Associated Charities, Club members will also prepare approximately 400 food boxes which will then be packed and distributed to those in need.

Adrian Kiwanis President Sara Herriman notes, “Our Club continues to find ways to assist our community, especially during this challenging time. I’m so proud of the ways we are able to serve and impact the well-being of our community!”

Kiwanis intentionally takes action to positively impact the Adrian community by encouraging economic development, supporting educational development for young children, and by creating and supporting recreation opportunities.
