Original Post:

Adrian, MI – A grounds crew worker found a dead body behind a maintenance shed at an Adrian hotel Wednesday morning. He has been tentatively identified by police as a man who was reported missing earlier in the day.

WLEN News spoke with Adrian Police Department Detective Sgt. Lamar Rufner at the scene…

The body was found on the property of the Carlton lodge in Adrian.

There was a missing persons press release issued by the APD Wednesday afternoon asking for the pubic’s assistance in finding William Shayne Phillips, a 28 year old Wichita Falls, Texas man.

The report said that he left the Carlton Lodge on foot towards West US 223 Hwy. He was wearing a black POLO hoodie, blue jeans, a baseball hat and black and brown boots. William was identified as a white male, approximately 5 foot 11 inches, 160 pounds, hazel eyes, brown hair, and having a goatee.

Possible sightings of William were reported around M50 and Pentecost Highway. He was last seen by his wife on October 16th, 2020

Police said Wednesday evening that the body resembles the information on the driver’s license found on the body, but they are waiting for identification by family members and an autopsy to be conducted before saying definitively that the body is Phillips.

According to the police, the body was on its side and he appeared to have been dead for some time. No weapons were found at the scene, Detective/Sgt. Rufner told WLEN News, and there is nothing that indicates the public is in danger.

The investigation continues and more information will be available after a full autopsy in the coming days.

Rufner said that the autopsy will dictate the next steps in the investigation. Police have been and will continue to be in contact with Phillips’ family.

The Michigan State Police, Adrian Township Police Department, and the Lenawee County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted the Adrian Police Department at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Adrian Police Department.
