Brooklyn, MI – The Spirit of America Blood Drive has returned to Michigan International Speedway today, marking the 19th year the largest, single-day blood drive in the state draws hundreds together to save lives.
The drive runs from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the speedway on U.S. 12 in Brooklyn, which honors those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on the U.S. on September 11th, 2001, and emergency responders who answered the call.
Two favorites of the longtime event will be absent this year to help organizers ensure social distancing is practiced throughout the day. No one-lap tram rides around the speedway will be offered and the special 9/11 museum reliving the events of that historic day will not be displayed. Michigan International Speedway will, however, display nearly 3,000 American flags at Unity Field to honor 9/11 victims and emergency responders.
All donors are asked to wear their own face covering during their appointment.
Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 1-866-642-5663 or visit Versiti online at www.versiti.org/Michigan.
