
Lenawee/Jackson Counties, MI – A municipal wastewater transmission line break near Wamplers Lake resulted in untreated sewage entering the lake, triggering a public health advisory.
The Jackson County Health Department advises that users of Wamplers Lake along the northeastern shoreline minimize all body and skin contact until further notice.
This public health advisory is in effect until water sample results indicate there is no longer any increased risk of bacterial infection from the sewage discharge. The sewer line break was contained and repaired quickly. Fishing is not affected at this time, and wading is not advised in the affected area.
Also, Lenawee County residents and visitors are advised to avoid physical contact with Wamplers Lake until further notice. The advisory does not apply to public or private drinking water supplies.
The advisory will remain in effect until results from water testing indicates Wamplers Lake is not impacted from the sewage discharge.
