Adrian, MI – The Croswell Opera House is planning a series of outdoor events to bring art and live performance back to downtown Adrian.
The “Croswell Out-of-Doors” series will begin with “Color Downtown,” an hour of outdoor art and music from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 12.
The event will feature artists and performers from Lenawee County and surrounding areas, including violinists Ann Hendrikx and Fran Wakefield, circus artist Chloe Whiting Stevenson, vocalist Natasha Ricketts, saxophonist Marty Marks and dancer Ja’Vaughn White. The visual arts will be represented as well, with painter Susan Semenick demonstrating her work through a collaboration with the Adrian Center for the Arts.
Artists will be spaced throughout downtown and positioned with an eye toward making it easy for people to practice social distancing while they enjoy the performances.
Jere Righter, the Croswell’s artistic director, said that theaters will probably be among the last places to reopen fully, but the Croswell wanted to do something to bring art and music back to downtown.
“We can’t have shows on our stage yet, but we wanted to get back to doing what we do,” Righter said. “We’re doing everything we can to make it safe, and I hope people will come down and enjoy the entertainment.”
The Croswell will also provide sidewalk chalk and invite people to contribute their own art to the downtown landscape.
There is no charge for the June 12th event, although donations will be welcomed.
