Monroe County, MI – A 44-year-old woman from Hudson sustained serious injuries from a crash with a Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Control Division vehicle on Thursday.

A release from the Michigan State Police said that the at-fault vehicle was previously involved in a hit and run crash in Monroe.

The Sheriff vehicle was crossing westbound M-50, when the suspect vehicle allegedly disregarded the red light and drove into the intersection. The two vehicles then struck another vehicle that was waiting to turn. The driver of the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Monroe County Sheriff vehicle, 24 year old Darrian Young, sustained serious injuries, has been transported to a Toledo hospital, and is listed in critical condition.

Toxicology results are pending on the driver of the suspect vehicle. Once they are received, the incident will be forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for review on potential criminal charges, as alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
