Lenawee County, MI – Coined as ‘Michigan’s Longest Running Fair’… the 2020 Lenawee County Fair has been canceled.
The week-long event was a source of joy and entertainment for families and 4-H’ers in Lenawee County, Southern Michigan, and Northwest Ohio.
The Lenawee Agriculture Society Board said in a press release Friday morning, that the decision was guided by three principals:
- To protect the health and safety of all stakeholders, exhibitors, attenders, and merchants and vendors.
- Continue the long tradition of the Lenawee County Fair, including open class exhibits, 4-H and FFA.
- Keep the Lenawee County Fair fiscally strong.
With the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the Governor’s release of the My Safe Start Plan, the board determined that they could not accomplish those goals.
Mark Ruttkofsky, Board President, said: “Our hearts are broken for the 4-H exhibitors who have already spent many hours preparing and planning their projects and caring for their livestock. The health and safety of these kids, their families, and our fair attendees were at the foundation of our decision.”
The Board has formed a committee to work with 4-H to determine how the Ag Society can best support their efforts.
Plans are in the works to host a virtual fair… including a virtual Fair Queen Pageant.
