Lenawee County Courts Issues Public Notice Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Following the Declaration of Emergency by Governor Whitmer regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, until further notice, the Lenawee County Circuit Courts, the Lenawee County Probate Court, and the Lenawee 2A District Courts will remain open, but the following intermediate steps will be immediately in effect for all of the Courts until further notice:

 

  1. If you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms do not come to the court, but communicate by phone.
  2. All hearings with vulnerable persons may be adjourned (postponed) upon request. The request must be initiated by or on behalf of the vulnerable person.
  3. Any civil case may be adjourned upon the request of any party with the approval of the Judge. The request must be initiated by or on behalf of the party making the request.
  4. ALL Jury trials currently scheduled within the next 30 days will be adjourned and rescheduled. Jurors should communicate with their respective jury clerks. Litigants should consult with their attorneys and if self-represented, contact the Court.
  5. Criminal defendants not in custody may have herrings adjourned upon request. The request must be initiated by or on behalf of the party making the request.

REQUESTS to ADJOURN/POSTPONE may be made by calling 517-264-4597 (Circuit Court); 517-264-4622 (Probate Court); 517-264-4675 (District Court). It is not necessary to appear in person.

Those individuals who fail to appear without having contacted the court first, may be defaulted in civil cases, or have a bench warrant issued in criminal cases.
